I'm curious if there's a way to do it without downgrading. Though maybe I'll just suck it up and do the downgrade for the duration of reading the VN.

Thank you very much. I was wondering what the hell was going on here, I didn't even notice sdl_ttf was updated.

Downgrading solved it.

I have the same problem on Gentoo Linux (kernal 3.2.1) with Umineko No Naku Koro Ni Chiru Episode 8, and SDL_ttf 2.0.11. I have not attempted downgrading because I'm unsure what else would break if I did so. Still, is there any known solution to this beyond downgrading?

Thanks~

I'm on Arch Linux x86_64. After an SDL_ttf update from 2.0.10-1 to 2.0.11 the text becomes invisible on all my games using onscripter-en (Mainly Umineko no Naku Koro ni, which is all I have). I have reverted that library to the previous version right now and all is fine, but I guess I can't just start keeping random libraries out of date, it could cause conflicts. I don't really know what could be causing the invisible text glitch, I'm sorry for not being able to provide more details on that other than what I can see.

Hi there, one of our QCers for The Second Reproduction english translation project found a wordwrapping error with the backlog. We're using onscripter-en-win32_dsound-20110930 and there were no problems with the backlog when I tested it using the original Japanese nscript.dat.

Here's a screenshot of the problem. As you can see, it breaks in weird places:

And here's the 0.txt we're using, since I'm unsure which part of the code is causing the problem.

At this time, the only complete translation of Higurashi and Higurashi Kai is available from MangaGamer. This uses the Buriko General Interpreter (BGI), which runs independently of NScripter and ONScripter-EN. It does not require the original Japanese versions.

If you are trying to use Sonozaki Futago-tachi's fan translation, which translates Onikakushi-hen, portions of Watanagashi-hen and the minigames, instructions are available at Sonozaki Futago-tachi's website. Note that this is a partial translation and only translates a small portion of the story.

In short, if you wish to play Higurashi and Higurashi Kai in full and in English, you will need MangaGamer's release. Downloadable and hardcopy versions are available.

Hello Mion,

I downloaded both Higurashi and Higurashi Kai in the original japanese version. I tried the newest developement of the ONscripter-EN, put the default.ttf in the engish file too, made a ons.cfg file and nothing did changed by the language. Do I need something more that runs these VN's in english ?

Hi tatose,

Thanks for the report. I don't have either of those VNs; did they work correctly on the previous release (onscripter-en-20110628)?

Does Kagetsu Tohya crash at startup when using window-width, or partway through a playthrough?

I'm not clear on what you mean by Gin'iro "unable to start from windowed mode": does it just not start the game, or is it failing to remember the window/fullscreen setting from the previous playthrough? What happens when you try to exit from the title screen on OS X?

Edit: I took a look at a script for Gin'iro (Japanese/Engrish, not sure which version), and it has a "menu_full" cmd right near the start of the game, making it go to fullscreen -- that would explain why you can never start in windowed mode.
